Visualizing the recently built Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in Ayodhya using satellite images

At the location of Lord Rama’s birth, Ayodhya in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has recently seen an unprecedentedly large-scale construction project. We conducted a comparative visual analysis using Sentinel-2 satellite images from January 2020 and 2024. The analysis unequivocally shows that the area around the temple site has undergone significant change.

The use of remote sensing technology offers enormous potential for conducting change analysis over time. The entire ecosystem of geographic information is growing as a result of the introduction of new sensors and cloud technologies. Even though more powerful computers can perform sophisticated analytics, it is still necessary to meet the fundamental needs of making information accessible to end-users. Here, we therefore try to unlock the potential use case by utilizing satellite imagery.
